Photographs distill the visual image provided by the eye and the brain, but they cannot duplicate the impact of what is experienced, seen and remembered by individuals looking upon the world. Photographers shape the impact of their photographs based on their own personal vision and their individual capability of capturing an image by focusing light with a lens, then bringing the image to the viewer. Charles Porter strives to provide beauty, dynamic tension and emotional energy through his portfolio of eclectic outdoor photographs. Although many images in his portfolio are taken far from his home in Kansas City, Missouri in locations in the Southwestern United States, Mexico, Central America, Cuba and Europe, the photographs are not designed to be images of places. Rather, these photographs were created to convey a sense of place, imagination and memory that will be different for each viewer. Crafted successfully, photographs from his portfolio provide a variety of internal resonances for each viewer as a result of the subject, composition, lighting and exposure of each photograph.
The galleries provided on this site, www.charlesporterphotography.com were created in order to display his photographs in a manner that assists viewers in finding images or themes of interest.
